I can't say anything that has not already been said. If you are in the area to see Palo Duro Canyon, it is probably less expensive to stay here than at Palo Duro State Park.

A group of us stayed there 2 nights. We had stayed there before. No complaints. The campground attracts a lot of fishermen since it is closest to the lake. But it is about 6 miles from town. The sites here are larger and easier to get into than at most of the other campgrounds at Del Rio. We have stayed at American and Buzzards Roost and the sites at them were hard to get into. There is one campground, 3 Rivers, which does not appear to be listed anywhere. The Chevron (former Exxon) station has 15 to 20 campsites and they catch a lot of overflow. We called several days ahead for reservations and we had to wait an extra day in order to get 3 sites. OTOH, Buzzards Roost was so packed; they couldn’t work us in at all. There is also what appears to be a large new campground being built that could be open as early as summer, 2008.

Pet restrictions, 30 pounds and 2 animals. Some of the sites are very tight. They let people park on the streets which can make it harder to try to back into a site. We paid $3 more for pull through sites at the back of the park. They were great. This is a nice RV park. 1015 appeared to be about 80% RV’s. Mostly motorhomes and 5th wheels. We drove around and looked at others in the Weslaco area. Some were nicer but they looked like they were 90% mobile homes. Many of the parks in the Rio Grande Valley are not listed here or in Trailer Life. Ranchero RV Park had a new section for RV’s only but it had no shade. The park looked very nice and had some pull trous. Leisure World appeared to be 98% mobile homes. Country Sunshine had some RV spaces and a lot of park models and mobiles homes. Magic Valley had older park models and mobile homes. Pine to Palm looked very nice but was a no children, no pets, park. Llano is large and very nice ( 5 pools). The key is to try to find out what they are in advance. Do they shove your RV into an empty site designed for a mobile home or semi permanent park model? If you are with a group, can you get all the sites together?

6 miles from east entrance of Big Bend National Park. Our group was there for 13 nights. Most nights there was live music at the museum. Most sites are pull throughs with side by side pedestals. We have stayed here for 6 years and meet many of the same people on return trips. Everyone if friendly and helpful. It's just a laid back desert environment.

Nice for a one night stop or more. We normally don't make reservations here but this year we did call first. We got the last 3 sites. Each year they get more customers and even though a lot of people use them for a one night stop, they are running out of space. The owners go out of there way to help you get into your site and make sure 5th wheels are not put in sites with trees with low limbs.

New owners. Very friendly. Great service. Took each of us, 2 rigs, to our sites. Made sure 5th wheel cleared any low tree limbs. About 80 channels of cable tv. Great location just off I-40 at exit 3. Easy to get in and out of. Some photos posted at theadamssfamily.com/CG/AR/AR.htm .

Great owners. We had 5 RV's and were very happy with the service. They also have some very private tent camping sites, with a porta john near by. We would certainly stay there again. They were also very pet friendly. No highway noise.

A young couple now own this campground. Very friendly and helpful. You can walk to the river fish. Very nice tent sites. We stayed 7 nights. Our group had 18 people with everything from tents to 5th wheels. There is a pavilion with tables and a gas grill by the tent camping area. Unlike some RV parks, they don't make tent campers feel like second class people. We hope to return next year.

Great park with friendly owners. We stayed twice in May. This was our 4th year so use them as an overnight stop. They are near Scottsboro, AL on Hwy 72. These people go out of their way to please you. We had not packed the USB cable to let us connect our wifi unit to our notebook and they loaned us the cable off their office printer. Where else would you get that type of service?? Most places you would not even think about asking. They do have some sites with direct tv dishes if you have your own box and they may have a box or two they can furnish you.

Easy access and interior roads. Great pull throughs. We had 2 sites for one night. Neither of us had to unhook. Our sites were about 60' deep. We had reservations. Park appeared almost sold out on Sunday night. Bus to downtown, Alamo and riverwalk area for $1. Good cable tv but wifi was $4 per day. Great swimming pool.

We have stayed at 3 different parks in Del Rio. This one is the closest to town and just north of Wal-Mart. Our group had 4 sites for 3 nights and had no complaints. WiFi is free. I rank this park ahead of Lonesome Dove (2005) and behind Holiday Travel Park (2004). The larger sites were about 55' long. Things can be tight for big rigs. This park sold out every night we were there. Reservations recommended if you want a larger site. Small sites do not have cable tv..Photos are available at www.TheAdamssFamily.com/CG/TX.htm . We camped here in a Travel Trailer. One of our group had a giant 5th wheel with 4 slides and had no problem with access or the 50 amp service.

Great one night stop. They do have a nice area in the center with trees, grass and picnic tables. Easy in and out if you don't miss the first left turn which just off the I-30 ramp. No sign and we thought it was a service road. We will stay there again. We had a 33' trailer. They have security all night. The Kiwanis Club runs it and the office is open from 4 P.M. to about 8 or 9 A.M. We will stay there again.

We had 5 rigs and a group of tent campers. Most of us stayed 6 nights. I don't understand the last post that questioned the campground location. Other posts made it clear that this RV Campground is not at Alpine, but 90 miles away. The post office for that part of the country is "Alpine". It is used by people who come here year after year and we have made friends with people from across the country. This is the best campground as far as meeting other RV'ers that we have visited. Our dog even has found a steady boyfriend here. This was our 5th year. Some people stop there for one night prior to trying to get into the RV Park at Rio Grande Village (the section with water and electricity). Many stay here after they see that RGV is an asphalt parking lot with electric pedestals behind the curb you back up to. We will return next year.

Full hookup sites are great for a Texas State Park. Other TX SP's should take note. Our group had 4 sites for 3 nights. This was our 5th year. Deer walk right up to your site. Great bird watching stations. Good food at lodge. Reservations are confusing if made over the phone. All loops have the same name. If you desire full hookup sites, ask for the most expensive. Reservations are almost mandatory for a full hookup site.

We had 3 RV's for 1 night. We picked this park based on the reviews on this site. Although it looks out of the way for a 1 night stop; if you are going between I-30 and I-20 in that area, it works great. We would use it again. Great security.

We have stayed there several times. The park is behind the Big Bend Motor Inn. Park is actually at Study Butte on Highway 118, about 2 miles from the west entrance to Big Bend Natl Park. Terlingua is on FM 170. Try the Starlight Dinner Theater for great food. FM 170 is a great scenic drive along the Rio Grande River. Used as a one night stop twice in October. The park has several new rates in effect. $10 for 10 hours for a site with water and electric and the dump station. (also use of the restrooms and laundry room). For those who wish a little more than a Wal-Mart, they have a $5 “boon dock rate”. You get use of bathhouse and laundry but no hookups and there is a $5 fee if you use the dump station. Some of the sites now have Direct TV dishes set up for those that carry a Direct TV box with them. Just off Highway 72 about 10 miles west of Scottsboro, Alabama.

At I-40 Exit 333 (NW) down and across from Loves truck Stop. Perfect 1 night stop. Easy to get in and out in the dark. Office was open til 9:00 PM MST. Two of us used this park in October 2005. 1 33 trailer and 1 MH with toad. 30/50 amp sites, cable tv. 55 to 60 foot PTs. Good Sam Park. We will stay there again.

We spent 5 nights. The weekend was sold out. This is a great campground for tent campers or those with small trailers. The electric service does not support heaters or air conditioners. This is an old campground with a lot of character and a great stream that runs through it. They also have several group sites. The big attraction is they are only 1 mile from the Nantahala River and the Nantahala Outdoor Center. They attract a lot of paddlers, mountain bikers and hikers. The Appalachian Trail runs less than a mile from this camp.

Friendly owner managers except for: They took more time going over the rules than they did in taking our money. We told them we were there for the night only ( 1 trailer, 1 5th wheel) and would not be unhitching. My rig is 53’ long. They put us on short sites in the area of sites 7,8, & 9. When we pulled into our sites there was a strong odor of sewage. Four other people in that area also found the odor offensive. We walked around and looked for uncapped sewer connections and found none. There was an area of fresh digging and new gravel. There was no odor in the upper area of 70’ pull through sites. There was no evidence of odor in the campsites near the office area. When this was brought to the attention of the manager (owner?) the friendliness disappeared and they blamed it on some camper with a loose sewer hose. We found none. We even removed the 4” sewer cap at our site and no odor jumped out at us. If we ever camp there again, we will insist in staying in the new area with the long pull through sites and will ask to first see the site to check for sewer odor. The new section is very nice and was about 80% full. They have a nice playground for children. The wifi was ok at our site.

Great place to stop for the night to eat and sleep. Catfish dinner is $7.95. We had a 5th wheel and a 31' travel trailer. Level cement pads. Great value. Also, good for more than one night if you are going to spend a day touring the Prague, OK area. Will stay again.

Great WIFI (free) and large mostly level sites. The nearby restaurant is now reopened and is within walking distance. Great cable tv. Downside: 1. The attitude of the owner as mentioned in previous posts. 2. The dog walk is at the far south end of the CG and the south side appears to be reserved just for tour groups. 3. We have stayed there for 4 years and do not plan to use it again. This year we used 5 sites, down from the 9 or 10 sites we used in 2004. We had some in our group that absolutely refused to stay there. 4. We saw no tents, but the tent area was overgrown as was the dog walk. They might as well turn the tent area at the north end into a second dog walk. We never saw any children or anything for children to do in the 4 years we have stayed there. Others have stated it is a family type campground. If you only wish to stop for one night, insist on a site long enough that you do not have to unhitch.

This was our 4th year at Moab, but our first time at this CG. The owners and hosts were very friendly and helpful. The CG was clean and well kept. A new and larger entrance road is almost open. They were very dog friendly. Our group consisted of 3 trailers and one motorhome. Some of the sites are tight for big or long rig. They have some very nice long pull throughs, but reservations well in advance are needed for those. The back in sites along the levee are wonderful. A lot of privacy. We will return there.

A great park with a wonderful owner. Large, level and long pull through sites. 50 amp service. Full hook ups. About 2 blocks off the highway, between the road and the San Juan River. Very Quite. Immaculate bath house. A pet friendly park with a small playground for children. The perfect base camp for day trips to Monument Valley, The Valley of The Gods, Hovenweep Ruins National Monument, Goosenecks State park, Wolfman Petroglyph Panel, Butler Wash, Sand Island, Goulding’s Lodge, Moki Dugway and The Edge of the Cedars State Park and Museum. We camped there for 8 nights in two 5th wheels, 1 motorhome, a van camper and 3 travel trailers.

Nice state park. Have stayed in better. Only a few sites have water. Nice view of lake. One section of campground has no hook ups. For a one night stop, check out the campground in downtown Santa Rosa. The state park is about 9 miles from town and you will probably save enough on fuel to stay downtown. We have stayed there 3 times and never got in early enough to get a site with water. Appears you can make reservations. Cost of a site with water is unknown. Three of us camped there for one night. One was a very large 5th wheel with 4 slides, and they had no problem with the curved pull thrus.

New owner for 2006. A lot of improvements have been made. Walk to Arkansas River to fish. Very scenic with the Collegiate Peaks on one side and the river on the other. Very nice tent sites. We stayed 3 nights. We had my 33' travel trailer and a large 5th wheel. They also have a 5th wheel for rent which friends rented for one night. About 4 miles north of Buena Vista on Highway 24. Ghost towns and scenic drives in immediate area. We will stay there again.

This is a Corp of Engineers campground. Golden Age Passports cut the prices to as low as $6.50 per night. We had a double site with two picnic tables and the pavement was about 20' by 60'. Many sites are easy to back into. Per Reserve America, one site is over 100' deep. The campground host suggested ones for our group of 3 RV's that would be easy to get into since we were not going to unhitch. The park overlooks the Arkansas River. 3 miles south off I-40. After about 1 mile the road makes a right hand turn to the campground. There was no sign after the initial sign at the I-40 exit. Outdoor activities such as camping, picnicking, boating, and sightseeing are favorite past times. Spadra Campground offers 25 sites, 20 sites have electric hook ups. Additional amenities include a dump station, hot showers, a boat ramp, a shelter, and a marina with a restaurant. Our group had a class B Motorhome, a 33' travel trailer and a 35' fifth wheel. Reservations must be made at least 3 days in advance. 2 day minimum on weekends. 3 day minimum on holidays. CAUTION: This is a high cliff area. Exercise caution (especially with children). The campground is open year round and sites range from $9-$15/night. A picnic shelter is available for $35 for a half day and $50 for a full day. The campground telephone number is (479)754-6438. About 6 TV stations are available.

Stayed twice in 2005 and two nights in May and June of 2006. The park was full one night with a Good Sam Rally. The campground provided a great local band for this rally. They have a new pavilion with a number of tables. Good level sites and very friendly owners, Peggy and Billy. We use this park as a stopover when going to or from Memphis to North Carolina.

We spent 9 nights. A group of us have used this campground for 20 years. It is only one mile from the Nantahala River and the Nantahala Outdoor Center, www.noc.com . At least 1/2 the sites are filled with tent campers. The electric outlets do not support a/c's or heaters. For the Memorial Day Week, the temperatures ranged from the upper 40's to a high of 81 degrees. Always below 70 degrees by 9 pm. The rushing stream is a great place for kids to play and makes for great sleeping at night. Some of the sites are set up for small groups.

We had 3 sites for 2 nights. The park is large, clean and child friendly. They even have fire rings at each site for campfires, something that is becoming a rarity. I would have given this park a 10 had it not been for the lack of a pool, hot tub or free wifi. Garner State Park is just across the river and since they charge a day use fee on top of the camp site fee, Parkview may offer much more for less money. We will return to this park. We had two sites, with 60' level concrete pads. I agree with the positive comments already listed. I would have rated it higher if it had free WiFi and paved roads. Way overpriced for what we got. We had two sites for a one night stop. Pull throughs are curved and impossible for a 30' trailer. We fought two of the pull through sites and finally found a back in site just deep enough to hold us. (many would not). We were there just to spend the night, but we did call the office about 15 minutes prior to closing. They assured us they had 55-60 foot pull thrus but didn't wish to take the time to assign us a site. Park was hard to find at night due to lack of signs. We will not stay there again. If Texas rest areas can offer Wifi, we should have had it for free for the price this park charged. If a family was staying several nights and knew ahead of time what type of site they would get and arrived during the day, the experience might be totally different.

Good sites, security, cable tv available, several areas to visit. Good stopover for a day or two on way to Big Bend. South of I-20 and I-10 merger. " Nice campground, but warnings to watch pets and children due to Javalina and other animals. 2006 was our 3rd year to spend several days there. Here are pictures of site #9, one of the best. Reservations are hard to make. All loops have the same name. Sites 1-14 are level and have full hookups. We had two sites in the full service loop. Make you reservations using a computer, so you can pick the desired loop. Call the park itself the morning you plan to arrive and ask them to assign you a site at that time. We will return.

We spent 8 nights using 3 sites in January 2006. As far as a campground I would rate it a 10+. As a campground/RV Park I give it a 9. Please see the pictures. http://www.theadamssfamily.com/CG/HBeach.htm In 26 years of camping, I think this park qualifies as the best campground we have been at and better than any RV Park we have ever used. It sure beats out the one RV resort we have used. Our 40 back in site was actually 54 deep and each site has a separate area for the fire ring and picnic table which is about 14x14. Privacy is great. The vegetation is so dense you can not walk between any site and its neighbor. Roads are good asphalt and pads are level gravel which is raked after each camper moves out. I measured one pull through site which was just over 100 long. Use caution if reserving a site in the older A loop as the sites are not as large. Also, the pts on the outside of the loops are curved. Those on the inside are straight, but the vegetation makes them very private. Many of the sites have picnic tables which can not be seen from the road. Each site has a clothesline. The boardwalk to the beach has been redone and is back open as of 1/15/2006. The beach front area is huge. All sites appear to have 30 and 50 amp hookups plus two water faucets. There are at least 5 campground hosts, plus the park staff and the ranger. Tile restrooms are cleaned daily from 9-10 AM. Due to the amount of bleach they use, I recommend showers before 9 or late in the afternoon. For those who visit in the off season, The Crab Shack, east on old 98, has a winter special lunch and dinner menu with a large selection of meals from $6.99 to $9.99. They will hand you the full price menu, but each table should have one small copy of the winter special menu. Ask if you dont see it or call ahead to see what is considered the winter season. POSSIBLE NEGATIVES: No cable tv and almost nothing can be picked up with an antenna. No sewer connections. (This may be a blessing as it will cause campers to not try to stay for months.) No internet connections. The host said new phones with modem connections were installed at each bathhouse last year, but they have never worked. Several places nearby have free wifi. (Panera Bread east on HY 98 and The Bad Ass Coffee Shop east on old Hy 98. And, they still havent put a light near the gate so you can see the combination lock. Always carry a flashlight if you will be returning after they gate is locked, which can be as early as 5PM. I would also suggest that you try unlocking it during the day while the gate and the office is open, just to be sure you can figure out how it works. If you have a problem, the office staff can show you how it works.

We had 2 back in sites for a MH & a TT. Not much space left for vehicles. Would suggest the pull through sites. They are further from the highway and have more space. Overall, a very nice park. They do not allow Sams Town employees to use the park, but there were some old MH's and trailers near us. The people we saw appeared to be local workers and could work at near by casinos. We did receive coupons for several 2 for 1 buffets.

We have stayed there twice in 2004 and 2005 for a total of 13 nights in a travel trailer. Everything is very clean. I don't think I ever saw a tent, or childern. I dispute what they call pull-thru sites. You pull in to unhook your rig and then drive your vehicle out and park behind your picnic table. If you have a long rig and just wish to spend one night without unhooking, I don't believe they can accomodate more than about a 45' rig. There is nothing open within walking distance except for a Shell gas station.

I am amending my post above to cause the pull-thru response to flip back to "yes". If you have long rig and only plan to stay one night and not un-hitch, you should explain this when you make your reservation. Our group used 8 sites in 2004 and we were all told to "pull in, unhitch, and park your tow vehicle or toad, behind your picnic table. I was back again in 2005 with a longer rig, 53' total, and I don't think my site was the advertised 60' deep. All the sites seem about the same size and are wide and very nice and easy to get in and out of, but I don't believe my rig would have fit had I not un-hitched.

This was a beautiful campground. Friendly service, great staff. But, for this price, you do not expect to have coin operated showers. Other area CG's have cable tv. At $42, the wifi should have been free. Tent campers were charged $30 per night. We were there 6 nights in a TT with friends in a MH. When there were tent campers, they appeared to be part of a tour group. There are CG's nearer Zion NP at Springdale, Utah, (Zion Canyon CG) and at Zion NP that would be better for most tent campers or those that desire a campground vs. a resort.

Pull-thrus are 16'x60'. Great for a one night stop, especially if you have a long rig as we do, (54'). The new Gander Mountain store is also at this exit. (I-40 and Hope Road, Exit 72 or 70, on south service road) Next door to Sundown which is also reviewed on this list. We have stayed at both, but most of the Sundown sites are only 50'. TL rating in 2000 was "park: 4. 5, Restroom: 5. 5, scenic: 5" Phone 806-352-8567. Open all rear. It appears that the 2000 Trailer Life was the last year that this CG and Sundown were listed.

Just west of Fort Worth, Texas. Overpriced and underwater. Built in a low area and after a day or two of rain the grass area by many sites is underwater. The roads and pads are cement and part of our pad was underwater. We had 2 sites for a one night stop. WIFI was available, but the minimum fee was for one months service (over $15). Not at Alpine, Texas but 90 miles southeast. About 9 miles from the Highway 385 entrance to Big Bend Nat'l Park. Nearest town is Marathon, 40 miles north. We have stayed there 3 times. This past stay was for 10 days. We were with a group of RV's and tent campers. They always had 35 to 40 RV's. This park has more space than the RV park in Big Bend. It is in a remote area and there is some hiking that can be done on the Stillwell Ranch. Black Gap Wildlife Mgmt. area is only a few miles south, with the road ending at La Linda, a former Rio Grande River crossing, 23 miles to the south. We use this campground while touring and hiking on the east side of Big Bend. theadamssfamily.com/CG/Stillwell%20Ranch.htm is a link with photos of the park. We find the staff to be friendly and they do have a store with supplies.

On Baffin Bay. The park filled up each of the 4 nights we were there. Our group had 3 sites and all campers were satisfied. One of our campers would have preferred cable TV, but about 6 local TV channels were available. A very clean park that is run by the county, thus no reservations, but it is a Good Sam Park. Large recreation hall that always had some type of activity underway. Free ice. Free phone in recreation hall. This park is near the King Ranch and Museum and Kingsville, Tx. If you have a group you should try Kings Inn for a family style seafood dinner. It is about 5 miles from the park and also on the bay. Family style here means that you order most of your food by the pound. Three pounds of seafood plus salads and fries for six of us worked out to only $14 per person. They don't have a sign back up on the highway and it appeared that they didn't need one. Word of mouth advertising gives them all the business they need. Both are off US-77 on FM-628.

Great sites on the Nueces River. We had 3 RV's and spent 3 nights. The park opened in 2002 and additional sites were being added in 2005. Lots of shade trees, a hiking trail, a large recreation hall, a free computer to use and a wonderful staff. They also have an assortment of animals near the office including some Zedonks, a mix of Zebra and Donkey, along with a number of baby goats that some of the guests just couldn't hold long enough. About 2 hours west of San Antonio and about 45 minutes south of Garner State Park and the Frio River. Less than on hour south is Eagle Pass, TX and a border crosing to Piedras Negras, Mexico. If you cross over, try Moderno for lunch. It was the best food (and price) of any we have had in the last 3 years when crossing over to Mexico.

We spend 2 nights here with 3 RV's in our group. When compared to the other campgrounds at Del Rio, the sites here are very tight. They state they are Del Rio's newest campground and that may be true, but they are not "new". This park appears to be at least 20 years old and no renovations in the bathhouse area. Small, old, and out of date. No comparison to the Holiday Travel Park of Del Rio, (7 nights in 2004). Updating at the Holiday Travel Park makes it appear much newer than this park. The staff was friendly and the park is closer to town than Holiday. Next year we will try Buzzard's Roost which is almost across the street from this park. It's sites appear to be larger and better laid out.

I thought I posted this after our annual trip to Big Bend in 2005, but mines not here. We had a travel trailer, 2 fifth wheels and one motorhome. We stayed 3 nights and had no complaints. Everyone was friendly and when we could not get the wifi to work the liquor store let us have something sent to them and they printed it at no charge to us. For those other less than positive posts, remember, this is the desert.

This is a hard campground to rate. We have camped there for over 20 years. We love it. Others hate it. The campground is old and has electric outlets nailed to trees. Electricity is only for fans, lights or electric blankets, as this was originally set up as a tent campground. Small RVs are now allowed. The campground is one mile north of the Nantahala River and the Nantahala Outdoor Center on Silvermine Creek. We have camped from May to October and rarely is air conditioning needed. This area is in a deep gorge and doesnt get much sunlight. 95% of the nights are below 70 degrees by 10 P.M. The owners enforce the quite hours and that along with the noise of the creek make this a very relaxed campground. We have spent as many as 16 nights at a time here. Much of our time is with a group that occupies up to 15 sites. A number of groups use this campground since it is one of the few near the river that allows pets. Holidays and weekends usually sell out. The bathhouse is over 30 years old but is kept clean. The owners clean up each site and fire ring after a camper leaves.
